When it comes to solving problems in marriages, you will find that marriage counsellors adopt different types of techniques to help solve the crisis in marriages. Most marriages which are on the verge of collapsing are mainly due to the fact that the partners in the marriage have stopped communicating with each other effectively, there is no love between them anymore; there is no physical intimacy in their relationship etc. When partners in a relationship come across such issues and problems in their marriage then it is time they saw a marriage counsellor if they feel the need to save their marriage.

When they approach marriage counsellors the counsellors will patiently listen to each of the spouses separately so that they can get a clear picture of what exactly is wrong between the two people in their marriage and all their problems. Once they know what exactly the problem in their client's marriage is and they will decide on a few marriage counselling techniques which they can use so that both the partners will benefit from the technique which will help to strengthen the marriage.

Genogram is one of the marriage counselling techniques commonly used by many therapists. This therapy helps to give a graphic picture of the history of the family using symbols, names, marriage dates etc of three generations of members in the family. Another technique is the Family floor plans where by members of the family have to draw their respective spaces and territory in their homes and comfort level.

One of the popular marriage counselling techniques involves the use of reframing method. This method involves replacing negative thoughts and questions with positive ones. This helps to strengthen relationships as it helps to build trust.

Communication skill building technique is often employed by many counselors to help many couples in marriages to effectively converse with one another with out getting into arguments. The spouses are taught how to listen to one another and also express themselves effectively without provoking the partner or hurting their feelings and sentiments.

Another important marriage counseling technique, which is employed by most counselors, is asking the couples to take small vacations so that they can get to know each other again and resolve their differences when they are away from home. Doing this makes sure the couple give full attention to each other and the feeling of having been taken for granted is washed away. This provides fuel to the relationship and rejuvenates it.
